A 19-year-old Bellefontaine man was seriously injured following a rollover crash Sunday morning along U.S. Highway 68 near West Liberty, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say Tory Johnson, 19, of Bellefontaine, was driving a 2022 Honda Ridgeline northbound on N. U.S. 68 when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway near the 8000 block of N. U.S. 68, just south of West Liberty.
According to the crash report, the pickup first struck a mailbox with its passenger-side mirror before continuing off the roadway and hitting a second mailbox farther north.
The vehicle then continued through several residential yards at multiple properties along U.S. 68, crossing through lawns and striking an elevated culvert. After continuing into another yard, the truck hit a flower bed containing a large landscaping rock.
That impact caused the Honda Ridgeline to overturn onto its side before coming to rest just past a driveway near 8361 N. U.S. 68.
Emergency crews from West Liberty EMS responded to the scene and transported Johnson to Mary Rutan Hospital with suspected serious injuries.
According to the crash report, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be contributing factors in the crash at this time. The incident remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
