Benjamin Logan Elementary School is preparing to host its annual Science Fair on Thursday, February 19, and is inviting community members to volunteer as judges for the long-running event.

The Science Fair has been a tradition at Benjamin Logan Elementary since the building opened in 1995 and continues to provide students with hands-on opportunities to explore scientific topics beyond the classroom.

For more than three decades, the event has encouraged students to work with teachers and families to investigate questions of personal interest, conduct experiments, and share their discoveries.

This year’s Science Fair will feature 72 student projects from grades 1 through 4.

Projects are designed to be developmentally appropriate, with an emphasis on investigation rather than demonstration.

Students are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, and analyze results.

Projects range from first graders experimenting with salt concentration to float an egg to fourth graders growing bacteria collected from different areas of the school.

Judging will take place between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. on February 19.

Volunteer judges play a key role by listening to students explain their work, offering feedback, and helping make the experience rewarding and encouraging for every participant.

Community members and Benjamin Logan High School students with prior Science Fair experience traditionally assist with judging.

The day will conclude with a Science Fair Open House from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., where families and community members are invited to view the projects and celebrate the achievements of the young scientists.

Benjamin Logan Elementary also expressed appreciation for the PTC volunteers who help organize and set up the event each year.
