Benjamin Logan High School is proud to announce the Seniors of the Month for September 2024: Sadie Staats and Carter Lyden.

These students have distinguished themselves through their outstanding contributions both inside and outside the classroom.

Sadie Staats, from West Liberty, has shown remarkable dedication across a variety of school activities. She is an active member of the Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Musical Pit Orchestra, and has earned Superior Ratings in Solo and Ensemble competitions. Additionally, Sadie is recognized for her academic excellence with honors including an Academic Letter, the Be a Raider Award, and membership in the National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. Her involvement extends to the Art Club, showcasing her diverse interests.

When asked about her time at Benjamin Logan, Sadie fondly recalls an eventful school bus ride: “One of my favorite memories is when my bus, picking up someone from a hill just down the road from my driveway, slid backward on an icy road. It was quite the adventure!” Looking ahead, Sadie aspires to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and credits her inspiration to her parents, band director Mr. Bowers, and her horse trainers Shelby Guthrie, Peyton Derr, and Becky Derr. “My biggest regret is not picking up the French Horn sooner,” she adds, highlighting her passion for music.

Carter Lyden, from Belle Center, has made significant strides in both athletics and leadership. An active participant in soccer and baseball, Carter has also been involved in Youth Allocations, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and the Business Professionals of America (BPA). His achievements include a standout performance at the Brad Jones Memorial Tournament and participation in Volleybuff.

Carter’s memorable school moments include winning the Brad Jones Memorial Tournament and his experiences in Volleybuff during his junior year. His inspiration comes from his parents, his brother, Mr. Goldstein, and Mrs. Freehauf. “One of my regrets is not trying harder early in high school,” Carter reflects. He is currently reading “When the Game Was Ours” by Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and plans to attend college with the goal of becoming an Athletic Director. His advice to parents is to trust in the values they have taught their children, ensuring they are prepared for the future.

Congratulations to Sadie Staats and Carter Lyden for their remarkable achievements and contributions to Benjamin Logan High School.

Their dedication and accomplishments are a testament to their hard work and commitment.
