The Benjamin Logan Jazz Band, under the direction of Myles Bowers, had the unique opportunity Wednesday to work with world-renowned jazz educator Todd Stoll in preparation for their upcoming performance at the Springfield Symphony Jazz Orchestra’s Hammer Time: A Swingin’ Retrospective with Jeff Hamilton on Saturday, March 22, at 7:30 PM at the John Legend Theater in Springfield.

Stoll, Vice President of Education for Jazz at Lincoln Center, has dedicated over three decades to promoting jazz education globally.

A Springfield native, he has led numerous ensembles and played a key role in expanding the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Program to thousands of schools worldwide.

During the workshop, Stoll shared his expertise in jazz interpretation, improvisation, and ensemble dynamics, inspiring Benjamin Logan’s student musicians to elevate their performance.

His deep knowledge and passion for the genre helped students refine their technique and gain a deeper appreciation for jazz’s rich traditions.

“Todd Stoll’s visit was an incredible experience for our students,” said Myles Bowers. “Having direct guidance from someone of his caliber just days before our big performance was invaluable. It’s amazing to see our students grow under his mentorship.”

The group appeared on Chalk Talk on Wednesday evening to talk more about their group and give insight into the things they do.
