At 8:00 PM Tuesday, Benjamin Logan Middle School received a voicemail indicating that a 6th-grade student planned to bring a firearm to school Wednesday.
In response, the school immediately notified local law enforcement, who conducted a thorough investigation.
It was quickly determined that the call was made by a 14-year-old student from Tennessee, who had falsely claimed to be a Benjamin Logan student.
The student used the name of a local student in an attempt to make the threat appear legitimate.
Authorities in Tennessee, including the local law enforcement and the involved student’s school, have been alerted and are taking action.
The investigation revealed that the students involved were part of a text chat group, which included the Tennessee student.
After a thorough investigation, it was discovered the threat was not credible.
However, the school is taking every precaution, and any Benjamin Logan students found to have prior knowledge of the planned voicemail will face appropriate disciplinary actions.
“Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” said Superintendent John Scheu. “We appreciate the swift response of our local authorities and the cooperation of our community in these matters.”
The situation is being closely monitored, and additional updates will be provided if necessary.
