Benjamin Logan High School held a heartfelt Veterans Day assembly Monday, organized by the BLHS Student Government and the President’s Roundtable under the direction of Trish Hemmelgarn. The event honored the service and sacrifice of veterans with speeches, musical performances, and tributes, bringing together students, staff, and community members in a powerful celebration of patriotism.
Tristan Sheets opened the assembly by sharing the history and significance of Veterans Day, setting a reflective tone for the event. The High School Chorale followed with the National Anthem, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by the President’s Roundtable.
Commissioners Michael Yoder and Mark Robinson presented a flag to the Logan County Distinguished Citizen for October 2024. The Fourth Grade Choir, directed by Mr. Tyler Young, performed “Do You Wanna Know Freedom,” and speaker Adam Bryant offered valuable insights from his career in the Air Force. In support of veterans, Student Government representative Carter Yoder announced a $500 donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Musical performances continued with the 7th & 8th Grade Choirs and the High School Choir’s rendition of “America the Beautiful.” Eric Hughes spoke on the importance of Veterans Day, while the High School Concert Band performed “Armed Forces Salute.” Eighth graders Harlee Baker and Emma Murray recited poems dedicated to veterans, and baked goods and letters were shared as tokens of appreciation for the attending veterans.
The veterans in attendance introduced themselves, briefly sharing their backgrounds. Noah Stanford recounted the history of “Taps,” followed by a moving performance of the piece by Damon Johnson and Elliot Carpenter. The event concluded with a flag-folding ceremony and final words of gratitude from Carter Yoder.
This memorable assembly underscored Benjamin Logan High School’s commitment to honoring those who serve and ensuring their stories and sacrifices are remembered by future generations.
