Chris J. Creamer, deputy director of the Champaign County Board of Elections, is being held in the Butler County Jail on unspecified federal charges.
According to jail records, Creamer, a Democrat, was booked on Tuesday. The records do not list the charges he is facing. Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones confirmed that Creamer is being held at the request of the U.S. Marshals Service, which houses federal prisoners under contract with the county.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service said no information could be released due to the matter being an ongoing federal case.
Creamer reportedly called in sick on Tuesday. He had been scheduled to be on vacation until the end of next week.
Authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
