The Logan County Metropolitan Housing Authority (MHA) proudly recognized Christina Boggs for completing the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program during a ceremony held recently.
Christina began the program in August 2023 and successfully graduated in February 2026, achieving her goals in just three years.
Her objectives included completing a Money Management course, maintaining her career, paying off debt, and covering her children’s tuition.
At the ceremony, Christina received a certificate of achievement and a check for $21,000 from her earned escrow account.
She plans to use the funds to purchase her own home.
Reflecting on her journey, Christina shared, “The hardest part was believing that I could actually get it done.” Through coaching, she developed a growth mindset and now encourages other participants, saying, “Don’t think that it’s not possible to do this, you can.”
“Logan County MHA is extremely proud of Christina and her accomplishments,” said a spokesperson. “We look forward to seeing all the great things she will achieve in the future.”
The Family Self-Sufficiency Program provides residents receiving housing assistance the opportunity to build assets and achieve economic independence.
The program is available to anyone participating in the Section 8 program.
Logan County MHA serves Logan, Union, Auglaize, Hardin, and Champaign counties.
When a participant joins the FSS program, they meet with a coordinator to set goals that work toward self-sufficiency.
Goals may include increasing income, paying off debt, going back to school to earn a GED or pursue higher education, or preparing for homeownership.
While the program typically lasts five years, participants can graduate early or request a two-year extension if needed.
During their time in the program, the housing authority sets up an escrow account for the participant.
When a participant’s income increases, their rent portion rises, and the difference is deposited into their escrow account.
Upon completing the program, participants receive the money from their escrow account to use toward their goals, such as buying a home.
Currently, Logan County MHA has 14 participants in the FSS program: 7 from Logan County, 5 from Union County, and 2 from Champaign County.
While the average number of graduates per year varies, so far in 2026, one participant has already graduated, one is about to graduate, and another is expected to graduate by June.
