A Columbus man learned a hard lesson about clearance limits Monday afternoon when his box truck collided with the Troy Road viaduct just before noon.
According to Bellefontaine Police, 36-year-old John Forney was driving a 13-foot box truck when he attempted to pass under the viaduct, which has a posted clearance of 11 feet.
The top of the truck struck the structure, tearing open the box and causing significant damage to the vehicle.
Fortunately, Forney was not injured in the crash.
He was cited at the scene for a traffic control violation.
Crews responded to assess the damage, and the crash closed the area for a short time.
There are several clearance warning signs on either side of the viaduct as well as a sign on the viaduct itself.
