A Russells Point man was arrested early Friday morning after deputies say he was stopped for speeding and showed multiple signs of impairment.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped 57-year-old Jerry Brandel around just after midnight on U.S. 33 near Township Road 99 after clocking him at 67 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone.
Brandel showed several signs of impairement during the traffic stop, and a red Solo cup containing a yellowish liquid and ice was also found on the passenger-side floorboard.
Brandel initially told the deputy the cup contained an energy drink, but later said it contained Jack Daniel’s Honey mixed with an energy drink.
He later changed his story and said the cup contained Jack Daniel’s Honey and water.
The report says Brandel initially admitted to having a couple of alcoholic drinks before saying that he had consumed seven.
He later told deputies he had been drinking while farming and had six 12-ounce Michelob Ultra beers before driving home.
Brandel declined to perform field sobriety tests and refused a breath test at the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
Brandel was placed under administrative license suspension, and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
He is charged with speeding, OVI, and open container.
