UPDATE: Serious crash shuts down 117 in Huntsville

According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wednesday morning, at 8:45 a.m., troopers from the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol were dispatched to a three-vehicle head-on crash on State Route 117 just north of the intersection at County Road 222 in the Village of Huntsville.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Tesla Model 3, operated by Taylor Stanchin, 28, Leo, Indiana, and a 2023 Volkswagen Taos, operated by Ephantus Osoro, 33, Chillicothe, were traveling southbound on State Route 117.

A 2024 Kia Soul, operated by Ashley Thomas, 37, Bryan, was traveling north on State Route 117.

The Volkswagen failed to leave an assured clear distance ahead and struck the rear of the Tesla.

After striking the Tesla, the Volkswagen traveled left of center and struck the Kia head-on.

Stanchin was not injured as a result of the crash.

Osoro was transported by Med-Flight to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for serious injuries.

Thomas was initially transported by ground ambulance to Mary Rutan Health, and then by air ambulance to Grant Medical Center for serious injuries.

The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Huntsville Fire Department, Indian Lake EMS, Bellefontaine Fire Department, and BMRT Ambulance District.

The crash remains under investigation by the Marysville Post.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Logan County Sheriff’s deputies shut down State Route 117 in Huntsville due to a serious crash in front of Dollar General.

At least two vehicles are involved.

Multiple EMS agencies responded to the scene, and two medical helicopters were called in to assist.

The extent of injuries remains unknown, and officials have not yet released further details.

Emergency crews worked for nearly two hours to clear the scene, which has since reopened.
