Local artist Riley Johnson is creating a unique mural in Champaign County.

Riley is a freelance artist who graduated from Urbana High School.

He now studies Arts Management and Entrepreneurship at Miami University.

His idea started with months of outreach, research, and storytelling.

As a result, he found the perfect spot for a mural located on 108 Miami Street, in Urbana.

The Urbana Mural is a one-of-a-kind landmark project that celebrates the heart and history of Urbana.

It is the largest mural ever painted in the city as a permanent tribute to the people, places, and stories that define the Urbana community.

Riley’s work focuses on celebrating Urbana’s rich heritage, blending historical stories, archival photos, and modern creativity into a dynamic visual experience.

The mural wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Champaign County Arts Council, and many businesses and community members who have contributed to Riley’s dream.

If you would like to support this project, donations can be made by visiting https://www.champaigncountyartscouncil.org/the-urbana-mural.

Donations support Riley’s work and provide supplies like paint, brushes, equipment, and sealants to ensure the mural remains a lasting landmark for many years to come.

Donations are tax-deductible.

Donations to date include $18,792.64.

The donation goal for this project is $35,000 by August 1st.

The top donor will cut the ribbon alongside Riley during the Mural Dedication ceremony.

They will be contacted after the campaign concludes.
