The Peoples Savings Bank (TPSB) of Urbana has a new leader.
Marsha Bumgardner has been named President and CEO, making history as the first woman to hold this position at the bank.
Bumgardner, who has worked at TPSB for almost 30 years, shared her gratitude for the opportunity. “I am truly honored that the Board of Directors and Brian Nicol have faith in me to lead the bank,” she said. “There are no words to express my gratitude to them and to the staff for their encouragement and support.”
She started her career at TPSB in 1997 as a teller and has worked in different jobs at the bank, including IT, compliance, and accounting.
Reflecting on her career, she said, “I feel like I’ve grown up at TPSB. Starting as a teller and working my way through different departments has allowed me to learn all aspects of banking. It’s been an incredible journey.”
One of Bumgardner’s main goals is to focus on financial education for young people. “It’s so important for our youth to have a solid understanding of financial literacy,” she said. “I also want them to know that a career in banking is a viable and rewarding path.”
Even as technology changes the banking world, Bumgardner believes in the importance of local, personal service. “People need people,” she said. “AI and computers can’t replace the personal touch of someone who truly cares and wants to help.”
