Friday, just before 10 PM, a Bellefontaine man was arrested after he forced his way into an apartment.

Officers were dispatched to the apartment after a 911 call came in.

The caller had reportedly hidden the phone under the sheets while Gary Burnside, 37, forced his way into the residence through a second-story balcony door.

The victim, visibly shaken and tearful, told officers Burnside had spent about 10 minutes trying to get in before climbing the balcony and entering without permission.

The victim said the two had recently ended a two-and-a-half-year relationship and Burnside had been blocked from further contact.

Although he was previously allowed to retrieve his belongings, the victim made it clear he was no longer welcome.

Burnside reportedly grabbed additional belongings during the break-in.

Officers located Burnside at a nearby home.

He admitted to going to the apartment to get his things and acknowledged entering through the balcony, stating, “I just wanted my stuff back.”

Burnside also admitted he no longer had a key and was not on the lease.

He was arrested and lodged in the Logan County jail on burglary charges.
