Burroughs Sworn In as Champaign County Sheriff

Chad Burroughs was sworn in as the new Sheriff of Champaign County on Friday morning.

Burroughs, who won the 2024 Republican Primary over incumbent Sheriff Matthew Melvin and later defeated write-in candidate Tim Durham in the November general election, officially began his term at 12:01 a.m. on Monday.

In a statement following his swearing-in, Burroughs expressed his gratitude for the support of the community, saying, “I’m humbled by the trust and support of this amazing community. I look forward to serving with integrity, dedication, and a deep commitment to keeping our county safe.”

He also shared his appreciation for everyone who helped him on his journey: “Words cannot express how grateful I feel for each and every one of you, without you I would not be here today. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey – I’m excited for what’s ahead!”

Burroughs concluded his statement by expressing his vision for the future: “Let’s make Champaign County an even better place to live, work, and thrive.”
