Calvary Christian School has announced its September Seniors of the Month: Nehemiah Dillon and Megan Palmer.
Nehemiah Dillon is the son of Travis and Ashley Dillon.
He is active in many areas of school life, serving as Varsity Soccer Captain, Vice President of Key Club, a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a five-year participant in high school drama, part of the Broadcasting Team, and a Track and Field athlete.
His favorite school memories include spending time with friends in class, traveling on the bus to and from sports events, and enjoying other school activities—“even if we got in trouble a few times for laughing too hard in class,” he said.
Nehemiah is passionate about soccer and the opportunity it gives him to use his leadership skills. He lists his grandfather, Thomas Curl, as a personal inspiration, describing him as humble, opinionated, and strong in his Christian faith.
The Bible verse that has impacted him most is Psalm 29:11: “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” He says the verse helps calm him in chaotic moments, even on the soccer field.
Nehemiah says sports have been the most impactful part of his high school career. “Sports give you an instant family to interact with in and out of school. They teach you so many lessons about life, relationships, and how the effort you put forward can affect your results,” he explained.
After graduation, Nehemiah plans to attend Defiance College, where he will major in Exercise Science and play on the men’s soccer team. He hopes to attend Physical Therapy School after college to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Reflecting on his time at Calvary, Nehemiah said, “Calvary always has Biblical principles being taught in every single subject, helping me to evaluate life and its events through a Biblical worldview.”
His advice to incoming high school students: “Enjoy it and participate in extra-effort things. You will regret not doing it later. Join sports, clubs, drama, etc.”
Megan Palmer is the daughter of Adam and Katie Palmer.
She is a leader in many areas of school and church life, serving as a Key Club officer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes officer, ASB Worship Director, Captain of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team, a member of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team, a Classroom Aide, Drama participant, and a member of both the Chapel Worship Team and Vineyard’s Youth Worship Team. She also serves on Vineyard’s Adult Worship Team.
Her favorite school memory is going to games with friends and sitting in the student section. She is passionate about both sports and worship.
Megan credits her parents, grandparents, and Vineyard youth group leaders Kyle and Kristy Gantz as the people who have inspired her most.
The Bible verse that has guided her is Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
She says the most impactful part of high school has been the College and Career class with Mrs. Labelle.
After graduation, Megan’s plans are undecided, but she says her years at Calvary have given her a strong foundation of faith. “It is incredibly impactful to walk into a classroom and be able to hear about the Lord every day. Being at Calvary my whole life, I have always been surrounded by Godly figures and examples. It has given me a firm foundation in my faith and to stand set apart from the world,” she said.
Her advice to younger students: “Do not overthink about schoolwork and tests. It is important to work hard and be intentional about what you are doing, but do not let it consume you. Most importantly, do everything for the Lord.”
