Caring Kitchen in Urbana is gearing up once again to provide free Thanksgiving meals to individuals and families in need throughout Champaign County. The longtime community nonprofit, located at 300 Miami Street, will offer dine-in, carryout, and home-delivered meals on Thanksgiving Day.

This year’s meal will be available on Thursday, November 27, with the following schedule:

  • Dine-in or Carryout: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Home Delivery: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Order Deadline: All requests must be placed by this Friday.

Anyone needing a meal, whether for themselves, their family, or a neighbor, can call 937-653-8443 to make a reservation, request delivery, or sign up to volunteer.

Caring Kitchen typically serves 500 to 700 people each Thanksgiving, and last year’s total was near the 700 mark. Organizers say they serve all of Champaign County, and demand has increased this year due to the recent SNAP benefits dilemma, which has left many families facing added food insecurity.

The annual Thanksgiving menu is made possible through generous donations from community members and local businesses. The meal will include turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, and other classic holiday dishes. Caring Kitchen says it is still accepting any and all donations to help ensure every household in need receives a warm holiday meal.

Executive Director Tara Jordan further explains how people can utilize this great service and how grateful she is to help support the community.

Community members are encouraged to contribute, volunteer, or spread the word so no one in Champaign County goes without a Thanksgiving dinner.

Caring Kitchen operates as a faith-based outreach serving the entire Champaign County community. Rooted in its mission to support people in need without discrimination, the organization provides a range of services beyond holiday meals — including a daily soup kitchen, a food pantry, an emergency shelter, and the distribution of donated clothing and furniture. The group’s work is guided by its commitment to compassion, dignity, and practical help for anyone facing hardship.
