Two women have been cited for theft after an investigation into several shoplifting incidents at the Bellefontaine Walmart.
According to a police report, officers were called to the store on South Main Street around 9:00 p.m. Saturday.
A Walmart Asset Protection employee said they had two women in the office after they were caught skip-scanning merchandise at a self-checkout.
The women were identified as 45-year-old Shanna Kreglow and Crystal Sorber, 51, both of Bellefontaine.
According to the report, Sorber said they were not stealing on purpose, while Kreglow claimed they spend hundreds of dollars at Walmart.
The Walmart Asset Protection employee told officers there were six separate incidents involving Sorber
Three allegedly occurred while Sorber was alone, while the other three involved both Sorber and Kreglow.
According to police, the women said they primarily steal cat food because they feed a “colony” of cats.
During the most recent incident, Kreglow and Sorber allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for $27.82 worth of merchandise.
The merchandise was recovered.
The Walmart Asset Protection employee also provided officers with dates, times, exact items, and video footage from five previous incidents.
According to the report, those incidents happened on July 6, July 22, August 7, August 16, and August 17.
Police say the merchandise taken during the previous incidents included large quantities of cat food, along with other grocery and household items.
The total value of merchandise involved in all six incidents was $376.11.
Both Kreglow and Sorber were issued summonses for theft and released.
They are scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court later this week.
