A Bellefontaine man was arrested early Friday morning, after deputies say he was caught with drug paraphernalia for the second time in less than a week.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy saw 41-year-old Shayne Proffit just after 12:30 a.m. trying to ride a gas-powered moped down the sidewalk near North Main Street and Brown Avenue in Bellefontaine.

The deputy recognized Proffit from a recent arrest, where methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found.

Based on that prior incident, the deputy stopped Proffit and asked permission to search him.

Proffit agreed and admitted he uses methamphetamine to help with anxiety.

The deputy found a clear plastic vial with a crystal-like substance in Proffit’s pocket—similar to what was found on him before.

He was then arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail, where he is being held on possession of drug paraphernalia charges.
