The Champaign Community Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to support Phase 2 of EVERYbody Plays!, an initiative dedicated to building an inclusive playground at Melvin Miller Park in Urbana.

The project is a partnership between the Lawnview Board of Directors and the City of Urbana, focused on creating a space where children of all abilities can play together.

Inclusive playgrounds are specifically designed to eliminate barriers and allow people of all ages and abilities to engage in play.

Unlike typical playgrounds, which may limit access for individuals with disabilities, inclusive designs feature accessible ground-level and elevated equipment, promoting physical activity, cognitive development, and social interaction.

EVERYbody Plays! began in 2021 with the successful completion of Phase 1, which quickly became a well-used community asset.

Phase 2, completed in late 2024, added new features tailored to children ages 2–5, continuing the commitment to high-quality, inclusive play experiences.

In 2025, the project continues to evolve, with additional improvements planned to ensure accessibility and engagement for all children in Champaign County.

The Champaign Community Foundation’s support helps sustain this vision of a community united through accessible recreation.

An affiliate of the Springfield Foundation, the Champaign Community Foundation is guided by a local advisory board and supported by the foundation’s staff.

Its endowment fund provides long-term, sustainable support for local initiatives that enhance the quality of life in Champaign County.

Community members and organizations interested in contributing to the Champaign Community Foundation Endowment Fund can make donations through the Springfield Foundation, helping ensure continued investment in projects that build a stronger, more inclusive community.
