The Champaign Countywide Communications Center is reassuring residents after a recent cybersecurity incident affected the CodeRED emergency notification system.

CodeRED is the platform used by the 9-1-1 Center to send emergency alerts and notifications to the public.

According to a statement from Director of Communications Amy Collins, the incident was contained but caused some damage within the CodeRED environment.

Teams have been working closely with external experts to restore services and ensure the safety and integrity of the system.

As a precaution, the decision has been made to permanently decommission the OnSolve CodeRED platform and transition to a new solution, CodeRED by Crisis24.

This new platform will maintain residents’ access to alerting and notification capabilities once it is fully operational.

However, a date for when the new system will be fully functional has not yet been provided.

Until the new system is active, the Champaign County Communication Center says it will continue to send out emergency notifications as needed.

Director Collins stressed that maintaining transparency and keeping residents informed remains a top priority.

Residents are encouraged to follow the Champaign Countywide 911 Center on Facebook for additional updates.
