The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced several ongoing and upcoming road construction projects throughout Champaign County that are expected to impact travel in the coming weeks.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detours, and use extra caution in work zones.

Ongoing Closures & Restrictions
- State Route 4 Railway Crossing
The railway crossing on State Route 4, between Maple Grove Road and Walnut Street, will remain closed through Friday, April 28, as Conrail Railroad crews complete maintenance work.
Detour: State Route 4 to State Route 56 to State Route 29. - State Route 245 Bridge Closure
State Route 245 is closed between Slate Stone Road and Kennard Kingscreek Road for bridge work, with an expected reopening on Tuesday, May 20.
Detour: State Route 507 to U.S. 68 to State Route 296. - Lane Restrictions in Mechanicsburg
Resurfacing work is underway through July 2025 on multiple routes in the village of Mechanicsburg. Flagging operations are in place to manage traffic.
Affected areas include:- State Route 29 between Railroad Street and Allison Road
- State Route 4 between Maple Grove Road and East Sandusky Street
- State Route 559 between SR 29 and Pleasantview Estate
Upcoming Road Closures
- State Route 4 Closure
State Route 4 will be closed between Allison Road and Mechanicsburg Catawba Road from Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 23, for a culvert replacement.
Detour:- Northbound: State Route 56 North to State Route 29 East to State Route 4 North
- Southbound: State Route 29 West to State Route 56 South to State Route 4 South
- State Route 296 Closures
Two separate closures are scheduled along SR 296 for bridge work:- Between Bates Road and Upper Valley Pike from Monday, May 12, through May 2025
- Between Upper Valley Pike and U.S. 68 from Friday, June 20, through Thursday, July 10
Detour for both: U.S. 68 to Miami Street to Oakland Street
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and watch for workers in all active construction zones.
