Champaign County construction update; Road closures and lane restrictions announced

Drivers in Champaign County should expect several delays and detours this week as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) continues a series of major road projects across the area.

The newest closure affects State Route 559, which will shut down between State Route 161 and Bean Road starting Monday, June 9, through Friday, June 13.

Crews will be replacing a culvert during that time. Detour routes will take drivers north via SR 161 to SR 4 and SR 36, and south via the same roads in reverse.

Several other projects are already in progress:

  • State Route 245 is closed between Slate Stone Road and Kennard Kingscreek Road through Tuesday, June 11, for ongoing bridge repairs. Drivers are being rerouted to State Route 507, U.S. 68, and State Route 296.
  • State Routes 29, 4, and 559 in Mechanicsburg are all reduced to one lane as resurfacing continues. These lane restrictions started in April and will last through July 2025. Traffic is being guided through flagging operations.
  • On State Route 507, expect intermittent single-lane closures between U.S. 68 and State Route 245 between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., now through September, as paving work continues.

More closures are just around the corner.

Starting June 23, State Route 296 will be closed in two locations — between Upper Valley Pike and U.S. 68, and between Bates Road and Upper Valley Pike — for bridge repairs.

Both closures will last through July 10, with detours directing traffic to U.S. 68, Miami Street, and Oakland Street.

A second round of closures on State Route 296 is planned from August 1 through August 21 for additional bridge work in the same area.
