Champaign County residents are being asked to sign up for a new emergency notification system after the county’s previous alert platform, CodeRED, was impacted by a security breach in November.

County officials announced the transition to Everbridge, a new alerting platform designed to provide a more secure and reliable way to deliver emergency messages to the public. The system offers real-time notifications and instructions through multiple channels, including text messages, email, desktop notifications, and voice calls.

According to county officials, Everbridge is used by millions of people in more than 200 countries and territories and includes more than 325 security controls aimed at protecting user information and ensuring dependable service.

Officials emphasized that all residents must complete a new registration to continue receiving alerts, even if they were previously enrolled in CodeRED. Previous registrations will not transfer to the new system.

Without signing up through Everbridge, residents will not receive future emergency notifications from the county. Officials are encouraging residents to complete registration as soon as possible to remain informed during emergencies and other important public safety events.
