A Champaign County man was cited after a single-vehicle crash late Friday night around 11 o’clock.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding an injury crash on State Route 287, near County Road 28, in West Liberty.
Deputies report Adam Rutan, 27, of North Lewisburg, was traveling east on 287 when he failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
Rutan, who was not wearing his seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by West Liberty Fire and EMS.
The caller told authorities Rutan called her and told her Merry Christmas and happy birthday, although it was not her birthday.
She said Rutan was slurring his words and was not making much sense.
Rutan was outside her home revving his engine, and after he left, the caller said she heard loud noises as if Rutan crashed.
Deputies followed up with Rutan and observed his eyes were moderately bloodshot and glass. They also detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage while speaking with him.
Rutan was unable to perform field sobriety tests due to his condition. He was offered a urine test and refused, stating he would fail.
Rutan told authorities he drank two 12-ounce beers between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. He also stated he had smoked marijuana very early in the day.
He was cited with OVI, failure to control, and seat belt.
