Champaign County road construction update

Several road construction projects are set to impact traffic across Champaign County starting the week of April 21.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detours, and monitor traffic updates via OHGO.com.

New Traffic Impacts

State Route 4 Railway Crossing Closure
Beginning Monday, April 21, Conrail Railroad will close the railway crossing on State Route 4 between Maple Grove Road and Walnut Street. The closure will remain in effect through Friday, April 28, while crews complete necessary upgrades to the crossing.

Detour: State Route 4 to State Route 56 to State Route 29


Ongoing Construction

State Route 245 Closure
A section of State Route 245 between Slate Stone Road and Kennard Kingscreek Road remains closed through Tuesday, May 20, for bridge work.

Detour:  State Route 507 to U.S. 68 to State Route 296

State Route 29, 4, and 559 Lane Restrictions in Mechanicsburg
Lane restrictions continue on several routes in the village of Mechanicsburg:

  • State Route 29: Single-lane traffic between Railroad Street and Alison Road for resurfacing, through July 2025
  • State Route 4: Single-lane traffic between Maple Grove Road and East Sandusky Street, through July 2025
  • State Route 559: Single-lane traffic between State Route 29 and Pleasantview Estate, through July 2025

All three projects will maintain traffic using flaggers.


Upcoming Closures

State Route 296 Closure (Phase 1)
SR 296 will be closed between Bates Road and Upper Valley Pike beginning Monday, May 12, through May 2025 for bridge construction.

State Route 296 Closure (Phase 2)
A second closure of State Route 296 is scheduled from Friday, June 20 through Thursday, July 10, between Upper Valley Pike and U.S. 68.

Detour for both phases: U.S. 68 to Miami Street to Oakland Street
