In addition to selecting local leaders this November, voters in Champaign County will also decide on several important tax levies and renewal issues.
These measures affect local schools, villages, and township services — and will appear on the November 4, 2025, ballot.
Here’s a breakdown of the pending ballot issues:
Champaign Countywide
- District: Urbana 4-A
- Issue: Local Option
- Proposal: Shall the sale of wine and mixed beverages of up to 21% alcohol be permitted for sale on Sunday by Urbana Food and Gas, Inc., dba Urbana Marathon?
- District: Champaign County Public Library
- Issue: Property Tax (Renewal)
- Rate/Term: 0.8 mills for 5 years
- Start Date: Commencing 2025, first due 2026
School District Issues
Urbana City Schools
- Issue: Income Tax (Additional)
- Rate/Term: 0.75% for 5 years
- Start Date: January 1, 2026
Township Issues
Adams Township
- Issue: Property Tax (Renewal) – Current Expenses
- Rate/Term: 2 mills for 5 years
- Purpose: General construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repair of roads and bridges
- Start Date: Commencing 2026, first due 2027
Johnson Township
- Issue: Property Tax (Replacement)
- Rate/Term: 1 mill for 5 years
- Purpose: General construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repair of streets, roads, and bridges of the township (excluding the village of St. Paris)
- Start Date: Commencing 2026, first due 2027
Rush Township
- Issue: Property Tax (Renewal)
- Rate/Term: 2 mills for 5 years
- Purpose: General construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repair of roads and bridges
- Start Date: Commencing 2026, first due 2027
Salem Township
- Issue: Property Tax (Renewal)
- Rate/Term: 2.9 mills, 5 years
- Purpose: For construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repair of roads
- Start Date: Commencing 2026, first due 2027
Village Issues
Village of North Lewisburg
- Issue: Charter Amendment Proposal
- Proposal: Adopt rules in regulating signage of sponsors, supporters, organizations, and political action committees on candidates, campaigns, and issue petitions for voter consideration of policies and medical products by initiative
- Note: Petition to be submitted to electorals
Tax levies and charter amendments directly impact services like road repair, fire protection, and school funding.
Approving or rejecting these issues determines whether current service levels are maintained, improved, or cut.
All measures listed are renewals, meaning they do not introduce new taxes but seek to continue existing rates.
In some cases, like Urbana’s street paving levy, these renewals fund major infrastructure improvements.
