A Bellefontaine man is facing OVI charges after a rear-end collision on South Main Street Friday evening.

Curtis Champion, 55, of Bellefontaine, was arrested just after 7:00 p.m., after Bellefontaine Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 2000 block of South Main Street.

According to the report, the other driver, Kimberly Cayot, 58, of West Liberty, told officers she was traveling southbound and had switched lanes when her vehicle was struck from behind by Champion’s white Chevy SUV—twice.

When officers spoke with Champion, they noticed the smell of alcoholic drinks on his breath and that he showed other signs of impairment.

He admitted to drinking a beer earlier that day at a local restaurant.

Champion agreed to submit to field sobriety tests and failed.

He was placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence (OVI).

A breath test at the Logan County Jail showed a BAC of 0.162, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Champion was cited for operating under the influence and assured clear distance, then released to a sober driver.
