All criminal charges against John Puckett, 29, a former Logan County Sheriff’s deputy who lives in Kenton, were dismissed with prejudice on Monday, November 24.
The incident happened in early July of 2025, when Puckett’s wife, a Hardin County Sheriff’s deputy, contacted the Kenton Police regarding a domestic dispute.
Police reports alleged that Puckett smacked his wife’s arms and hands, knocked items from her hands, and blocked her from leaving the home.
Puckett was arrested on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and unlawful restraint.
He was then terminated from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on August 1.
Puckett had a history of disciplinary issues, including a 10-day suspension earlier in 2025.
Under the union’s collective bargaining agreement, Puckett had the right to appeal, and arbitration is scheduled for December 3rd at 9 AM.
Puckett began his law enforcement career as a corrections officer in August 2015.
He worked as a deputy in the jail from June through December 2017 before starting patrol duties in December 2017.
Puckett’s attorney, Aaron D. Lowe, released the following statement:
“The charges, were dismissed with Prejudice and at the State’s cost. To be dismissed with Prejudice means the State can never refile these charges against John. Furthermore, the matter was resolved without John having been convicted of anything. I believe this matter was resolved in the way it was because of a lack of credible evidence. This case highlights the importance of why we presume people are innocent until proven guilty. This is true of all people regardless of their occupation”
We have reached out to the Kenton City Prosecutor for comment, but have not received a reply.
