According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 271 vehicles were stopped between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM Saturday night at the OVI checkpoint on South Main Street in Bellefontaine.

Two drivers were diverted for further investigation, but no arrests were made.

Extra patrols were also on hand in the area to support the effort.

Funded by federal grant money, OVI checkpoints aim to deter impaired driving, intercept offenders, and educate the public.

Lieutenant Matt Himes from the Marysville Post of the Highway Patrol:

Authorities remind motorists: if you plan to drink, designate a sober driver or arrange alternate transportation.

“Don’t let another life be lost to the senseless act of impaired driving,” the patrol stated.
