A Logan County woman has been arrested after a report of child abuse and neglect was made regarding her 4-year-old daughter.

The investigation, which involves Logan County Children’s Services (CPS), local law enforcement, and medical professionals, is ongoing.

Friday Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies went to speak with Abby Small, 34, of West Mansfield, at her home.

As they approached they saw Abby unloading groceries from her car.

However, when she saw them, she went inside and slammed the door shut.

Deputies attempted to speak with her through the door, but Abby barricaded herself inside.

At this point, the deputies, in coordination with CPS, decided to force entry into the home to check on the children inside.

Using a code, deputies managed to unlock the door, but Abby immediately attempted to shut it again.

After repeated attempts to have Abby step away from the door, deputies used mild force to open it and gain entry.

Abby was arrested for Obstructing Official Business, handcuffed, and taken to the Logan County Jail for booking.

Also on Friday, the child was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus due to concerns about her severe malnutrition and injuries.

The Logan County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against Small including Endangering Children.

An investigation continues.
