UPDATE: Child seriously injured in West Mansfield bicycle accident

UPDATE:

The child in the accident below has been identified as six-year-old Jonah Blackburn.

Deputies say Blackburn was riding his bicycle when he failed to stop at a stop sign at an alley intersecting with Highland Street.

His bicycle collided with a 2019 GMC Canyon pickup truck traveling east on Highland.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Blackburn sustained serious injuries and was initially transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Bokescreek EMS.

He was later airlifted to Dayton Children’s Hospital by CareFlight for further treatment.

His condition is currently unknown.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.


According to scanner traffic, a child was struck by a vehicle shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday in West Mansfield.

Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded promptly to the scene.

The child sustained critical injuries and was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment.

CareFlight was also called in for treatment, and a short time later, transferred the child to Dayton Children’s Hospital.

No further details have been released at this time.
