In week three of the Washington Township Citizens Academy, participants gained valuable insights into topics such as Narcan use, the Adult Parole Authority, and the role of Drug Recognition Experts (DREs).
The group also became CPR-certified.
Officer Logan Brown, a Drug Recognition Expert and Lieutenant at Indian Lake EMS led the session on DREs.
Brown is trained to evaluate suspects suspected of being under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or both.
He also serves as a statewide educator for impaired driving enforcement and has a diverse background in law enforcement, including experience as a corrections officer, and dispatcher, and has six years on road patrol.
Brown talks more about being a DRE:
Angie and Aaron Maddox, Adult Parole Authority officers, shared their daily duties and discussed their important role in Logan County with the group.
Both Maddox’s have about 80 cases they handle daily, and said they have a passion for helping people.
The session also featured Sonya Eaton from the Logan County Health District, who provided training on Narcan, including how and when to use it, how to assist someone overdosing, and how to utilize the emergency kits distributed during the session.
The Citizens Academy meets again next week to take a deeper look into the department and its activities and get a better understanding of its enforcement efforts.
