The Bellefontaine Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy met for their ninth week Thursday evening.

Kicking off the evening, Sergeant Erik Weeks showed off the Logan County Jail. Taking a behind-the-scenes tour, class members took a look at what it’s like for a member of the community to be charged and booked in jail, and what life on the inside looks like.

After looking at the jail side of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, class members were also able to stop in the newly renovated communications room and talked with Communications Officer, Sarah Blair. Blair explained that Logan County has four 9-1-1 lines, and often times the public uses those lines for nonemergencies and expressed that the main line should be used. Blair explains:

Once back at the Bellefontaine Police Station, the class viewed, “Heroes Behind the Badge” a documentary film featuring some of the brave men and women of law enforcement who put their lives on the line and survived, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. On average one police officer is killed in the line of duty every 54 hours in the United States.

Next week the BPDCA will learn about the K9 programs and School Resource Officers.
