This year marks a special milestone for the Citizens Federal Savings and Loan Association as the organization celebrates 140 years of service to the Logan County community.
Established on February 13, 1885, as the Citizens Building & Loan Company, the bank’s humble beginnings laid the groundwork for what has become a trusted financial institution for generations of residents.

It all began with a small group of local visionaries who sought to provide Logan County residents with the financial tools necessary to buy, build, and repair their homes.
At the inaugural meeting on March 18, 1885, Captain T.L. Hutchins, a local businessman and Civil War hero, was elected the first president of the association.
The group shared office space at 107 South Opera Street, paying half the rent of $4.50 per month.
Over the years, Citizens Federal has evolved alongside the community.
By 1900, the association moved to 104 North Main Street, renting space behind the Bellefontaine National Bank.
A pivotal moment came in 1919 when the association purchased the building at 106 North Main Street, marking the beginning of a long-term home for Citizens Federal.
In the mid-1930s, as the nation faced the Great Depression, Citizens Federal expanded its commitment to serving the financial needs of the community.
The 1960s brought more remodeling and growth, leading to the bank’s move to 110 North Main Street.
One of the most notable landmarks in the bank’s history is its drive-thru, which was established in 1972 at 126 North Main Street.
Citizens Federal’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the community continued into the 1990s when the bank underwent a facelift and expanded into adjacent buildings, modernizing its appearance while staying true to its roots.
In October 2022, the bank made a significant move from its long-standing location to a new address at 100 North Main Street.
For 140 years, Citizens Federal has continued to provide safe, reliable financial services, including savings accounts, mortgages, and retirement planning, all while building lasting relationships with the people of Logan County.
As the bank celebrates its anniversary, it remains dedicated to supporting the community’s growth and looks forward to many more years of service.
The bank also honors the leadership and dedication of its Board of Directors and executive team, whose contributions have helped guide Citizens Federal through its many successes.
