The City of Urbana has announced the resignation of Law Director Mark Feinstein.
Feinstein has served as the city’s chief legal officer and Municipal Court prosecutor, handling all legal matters for the City of Urbana and prosecuting misdemeanor cases in Champaign County. Before joining the city, he spent nearly 25 years serving Champaign County as a private attorney and acting magistrate.

The City of Urbana’s Law Director, Mark M. Feinstein, has submitted his resignation to Mayor Bill Bean. Mr. Feinstein’s resignation has been accepted by Mayor Bean. Mr. Feinstein is leaving the City to pursue another opportunity in the legal field and focus on family priorities. Mr. Feinstein’s resignation will be effective at the end of business on Friday, August 7, 2026.
“Mark has been an incredible asset for the City. He has been a strong counselor to our elected officials and our staff and has always kept the best interest of the City’s residents in mind,” Mayor Bill Bean said.
“We appreciate Mark’s leadership and the legal guidance that he provided to the City of Urbana during his tenure. We wish him continued success in his future endeavors,” Council President Dwight Paul said.
The City appreciates Mr. Feinstein’s long-standing leadership as the City’s Law Director and the wise, practical advice that he has given to the City, its elected officials, and its staff.
The City is actively working to fill the Law Director position and remains committed to ensuring a seamless transition.
