The City of Urbana has released a public notice document outlining the timeline of council actions, ordinances, and meetings connected with the proposed data center project and related zoning changes. This release comes in response to concerns from some residents about transparency and whether key decisions were made openly.
According to the city’s notice, all significant steps — including annexing land, updating zoning to allow data centers, and creating a Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) — were taken in open council meetings with proper public notice and minutes. The document also states that no secret contracts or nondisclosure agreements exist between the city and any developer beyond the required pre-annexation agreement. As of this notice, no final site plans for a data center have been filed with the city.
The timeline spans from late 2024 through late 2025, tracing the progression of ordinances and council readings that set the stage for possible future development. Urbana officials emphasize that all relevant actions were documented and accessible to the public.
