According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, a high-speed pursuit ended in a crash on State Route 117 Sunday morning.

Just after 3:00 AM, deputies saw a black Dodge Charger weaving on the road near Lima Street in Huntsville and State Route 235, then clocked the vehicle going 93 MPH in the 55 MPH zone.

The driver, identified as Andrew DeBerry, 30, of Columbus, attempted to evade law enforcement by turning into multiple driveways.

The vehicle ultimately lost control on the 11000 block of State Route 117 and hit a tree.

Deputies arrived to find DeBerry walking toward patrol vehicles with his hands raised.

During a search of his vehicle, deputies found an open container of alcohol and a large bag containing a brown powdery substance, which later testing indicated contained opiates and fentanyl.

DeBerry was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was medically cleared after potential exposure to the substance.

He was then taken to the Logan County Jail, where he was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI), speeding, driving under suspension, and failure to control, and charged with possession of drugs.
