The Logan County Commissioners are continuing to work on bringing public transportation back to the area and helping communities recover from the tornado that hit Indian Lake in 2024.
Wednesay, at the Legislative Impact meeting, held by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, the commissioners shared updates on several projects around the county.
Public transportation has been a concern since RTC Industries stopped its services earlier this year.
The commissioners recently met with State Representatives Tim Barhorst and Ty Mathews and State Senator Susan Manchester to try to move some funding to our county to reinstate this much-needed service.
They have also asked Bridges Community Action to take the lead as the county’s transportation agency.
Commissioner Greg Fitzpatrick talks about transportation:
Logan County has applied for $11.3 million in federal funds to help with tornado recovery.
The money would go toward rebuilding areas around Indian Lake and supporting housing and infrastructure projects.
Here’s how they plan to use the money:
- $300,000 to the Logan County Land Bank to tear down 23 damaged homes owned by people who didn’t have enough insurance.
- 40% for fixing roads and infrastructure in Lakeview and Russells Point.
- 30% for Habitat for Humanity to build around 30 new homes.
- 30% for new apartment buildings or other types of housing.
The commissioners will help make sure the money is used correctly.
They’re also waiting to see if the next state budget will include more funding for the recovery.
The commissioners also shared that the current building lease for the Job and Family Services will end in March 2026.
After that, the office will move in with RTC Industries at the intersection of County Road 32 and State Route 47 in Bellefontaine.
Other improvements around the county, such as recent upgrades to Logan Acres, the Logan County Fairgrounds, and soon-to-be changes at the County Annex Building in Bellefontaine, were discussed.
At the close of the meeting, Antram discussed the fact that next year, America will celebrate 250 years.
More details on local celebrations and around the state will be released soon, and plans are being finalized.
