Commissioners Present Flags to Veterans

Thursday afternoon, the Logan County Commissioners held a Veterans Flag presentation for the last two flags that flew over the courthouse.

The flag flew over the Logan County Courthouse in November and December of 2023.

The November 2023 flag was presented to Mr. John Liess.

Leiss, of Quincy, served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968.

He was active in the 591st Engineer Corps, having been trained in the USATC Engineer program in Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri.

Leiss’ honors include the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Marksman and Expert in Handling the X-16 Firearm, One Overseas Bar, and National Defense Service Medal.

He grew up in Quincy and graduated from Riverside High School in 1965.

 

The December 2023 Veteran Flag was presented to Mr. Russell Strayer.

Strayer, of Bellefontaine, served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968.

He was stationed near Frankfurt, Germany for 2 ½ years.

Strayer’s honors include the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He grew up in DeGraff and is a 1965 graduate of Riverside.
