Construction Alert in Champaign County

Several state highway construction projects are set to impact travel throughout Champaign County this week, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, expect delays, and consider alternate routes as crews work on bridge repairs, culvert replacements, and resurfacing.

New Road Closures

  • State Route 4 Closure (May 12–23): State Route 4 will be closed between Allison Road and Mechanicsburg Catawba Road for culvert replacement.
    Detours:
    • Northbound: State Route 56 North → State Route 29 East → State Route 4 North
    • Southbound: State Route 29 West → State Route 56 South → State Route 4 South
  • State Route 296 Closure (May 12–May 2025): A long-term closure between Bates Road and Upper Valley Pike for bridge work.
    Detour: U.S. 68 → Miami St → Oakland St
  • State Route 245 Closure (May 14–June 11):  State Route 245 will close between Slate Stone Road and Kennard Kingscreek Road for bridge repairs.
    Detour: State Route 507 → U.S. 68 → State Route 296

Ongoing Construction Projects

  • State Route 29, State Route 4, and State Route 559 Lane Restrictions (Through July 2025):
    In the village of Mechanicsburg, these routes will be reduced to single lanes as crews continue resurfacing work. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers in place.

Future Closures

  • State Route 296 Closure (June 20–July 10): Another closure of State Route 296 is scheduled between Upper Valley Pike and U.S. 68 for additional bridge work.
    Detour: U.S. 68 → Miami Street → Oakland Street
