Drivers in Champaign County should prepare for ongoing and upcoming road construction projects that may impact travel over the next several weeks and months.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has released updated details on several state highway projects throughout the area.
Continuing Projects
State Route 296- State Route 296 remains closed between Bates Road and Upper Valley Pike as crews continue work on a bridge in the area. That section is expected to reopen by Thursday, July 31. A second closure will begin shortly after, as State Route 296 shuts down between Upper Valley Pike and U.S. 68 from Friday, August 1, through Thursday, August 21, for additional bridge work. Detour: U.S. 68 to Miami Street to Oakland Street.
Mechanicsburg Resurfacing Projects- Three separate resurfacing projects are ongoing in the village of Mechanicsburg, with single-lane restrictions in place through the end of the month:
- State Route 29, between Railroad Street and Alison Road
- State Route 4, between Maple Grove Road and East Sandusky Street
- State Route 559, between State Route 29 and Pleasantview Estate
All three projects are being managed with flagging operations to maintain traffic flow.
State Route 507- Single-lane restrictions continue on State Route 507 between U.S. 68 and State Route 245, with work occurring from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. This repaving project is expected to continue through September.
Upcoming Work
U.S. 68- Beginning Monday, August 4, U.S. 68 will be reduced to one lane in areas between U.S. 36 and the Logan/Champaign County line. Crews will be repaving the roadway between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. The project is expected to last through October, with traffic maintained via flaggers.
