In reports released Monday morning from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, a Urbana woman was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence after deputies responded to a report of a possible impaired driver.
The incident happened the evening of Tuesday, September 22, near County Road 29 and County Road 5.
According to the report, a caller said he was following a gray Honda Fit that was driving slowly and having a hard time staying in its lane.
The caller told dispatch the Honda had crossed the center line and stopped suddenly, causing him to hit the vehicle.
The Honda then continued driving, and the caller followed it to an address on County Road 29.
Deputies found damage to both vehicles consistent with the reported crash.
The driver of the Honda, 52-year-old Sherry Cope of Urbana, was contacted by deputies.
The report says deputies detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and noticed she had difficulty concentrating.
When asked if she had consumed too much alcohol to be driving, Cope reportedly responded, “probably.”
Cope submitted to field sobriety tests and failed.
She was arrested for OVI and taken to the Logan County Jail for breath testing.
Her breath sample registered .159, nearly two times the legal limit.
Her vehicle was towed, and Cope was placed under an administrative license suspension.
She was cited for OVI and is scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court, then released to a sober driver.
