Drivers in Logan County should be prepared for a temporary road closure on Thursday, as local emergency crews carry out a full-scale hazardous materials training drill.
County Road 5 will be shut down from State Route 47 to State Route 540 until noon.
Emergency responders are conducting a simulated chemical spill response as part of a coordinated exercise led by the Logan County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).
Multiple agencies are participating:
- Tri-Valley Fire & EMS
- Rushcreek and Bokescreek Township Fire & EMS
- Robinaugh EMS
- Logan County HazMat Team
- Mary Rutan Hospital
- Logan County Sheriff’s Office
- Emergency Management Agency
- Benjamin Logan Schools
The drill is designed to test emergency plans and improve coordination between agencies during a hazardous materials incident.
The scenario involves emergency vehicles, response equipment, and live role-players simulating injuries.
No real hazardous substances will be used.
The intersection of County Road 5 and Township Road 127 in Jefferson Township is also blocked.
Residents may notice increased emergency activity in the area, but there is no cause for concern — it’s only a drill.
Those interested in volunteering for future exercises or learning more about emergency preparedness can contact the Logan County LEPC at 937-593-5743.
