Curtis Cox was sentenced this week in Bellefontaine Municipal Court after his August arrest on a misdemeanor charge involving a dog.
Peak of Ohio News previously reported that on August 28, Cox, 85, of DeGraff, was arrested following an investigation into an incident at a home on Miami Street in DeGraff.
According to a Logan County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were called to the home around 5:30 after the property owner received a security camera alert showing activity inside his garage.
The property owner reviewed the footage and contacted law enforcement.
Deputies said they reviewed the recordings and saw Cox engaging in what they described as inappropriate sexual contact with a dog.
After consulting with the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, deputies arrested Cox and transported him to the Logan County Jail.
He was charged with misdemeanor sexual conduct with an animal.
Cox was lodged in the Logan County Jail Wednesday afternoon.
Cox was sentenced Monday to 90 days in jail; however, the court suspended 80 days of the sentence.
He was placed on two years’ probation.
He received credit for one day already served.
As part of his probation, Cox must remain law-abiding, attend all court and probation appointments, submit to random drug and alcohol testing, and not possess or use illegal drugs.
The court also ordered Cox to have no contact with any animals.
Cox must complete a mental health assessment at a certified treatment facility and follow all recommended treatment and after-care programs.
He was also ordered to pay a $450 fine and $140 in court costs.
