Thursday afternoon, just after 2 PM, the Bellefontaine Police Department’s Special Response Team attempted to serve a firearms-related search warrant at a home on the 700 block of West Patterson Avenue after receiving information about illegal firearms, drug activity, and the presence of two convicted felons and a wanted individual.
Officers initially attempted verbal compliance with the occupants, but when there was no response, a window was broken with a bean bag round.
Two men at the front door complied and were detained.
A man and a woman in the basement initially refused to comply.
Officers used gas to gain compliance, ensuring the safety of a 4-month-old infant found in the basement.
During the operation, officers learned the wanted male had moved to a nearby residence.
Law enforcement surrounded the home and eventually detained David Hunsicker, the homeowner, and DeWayne Brown, the wanted individual with an active F1 warrant through Clark County.
A search of the first home uncovered a Ruger 5.56 AR rifle, ammunition, suspected crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
At the second home, detectives found crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and cash.
The following people were arrested during the incident:
- Joseph Lakatos, 58, of Bellefontaine: Weapons under disability
- Timothy Tewksbury, 54, of Bellefontaine: Weapons under disability
- David Hunsicker, 58, of Bellefontaine: Obstructing justice for harboring a fugitive
- DeWayne Brown, 41, of Dayton: Possession of crack cocaine and active felony warrant
All were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
