A routine traffic stop on Saturday, resulted in the arrest of Ryan Crapnell after officers discovered illegal narcotics in his vehicle.

A Bellefontaine Police officer initiated the stop on a taupe Honda Accord for failing to use a turn signal, a violation that had occurred earlier on West Sandusky Avenue.

Upon contacting the driver, Ryan Crapnell, 46, at large, the officer explained the reason for the stop.

Crapnell admitted he knew he should have signaled but neglected to do so.

The officer recognized Crapnell from previous encounters involving illegal narcotics.

During the interaction, Crapnell said that he was currently out on bond through the Common Pleas Court.

The officer contacted a probation officer, who confirmed an arrest order for Crapnell.

After issuing a written warning for the turn signal violation, the officer asked Crapnell to exit the vehicle and placed him under arrest.

When questioned about illegal items, Crapnell denied having anything illegal on his person but jokingly mentioned there was “probably dope” in the car.

While Crapnell initially claimed he was not the sole driver of the vehicle, it was registered to him, and he was the only occupant at the time of the stop.

K9 Pyro was deployed and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle turned up crack cocaine on the driver’s seat and additional crack cocaine inside a cigarette pack on the front passenger seat.

A crack pipe was also found in the center console, all items within Crapnell’s reach and control.

Crapnell was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he was lodged on multiple charges related to drug possession.
