Crash puts spotlight on possible stolen vehicle

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating after a vehicle was reportedly taken and used without the owner’s permission in Bellefontaine.

According to a report, Bellefontaine Police officers were dispatched around 7:50 a.m. on Friday to Heritage Court to assist a trooper with a crash investigation.

The trooper told officers the vehicle involved in the crash was registered to a woman who was not involved in the crash.

Officers contacted the owner, who said her vehicle should have been parked in the Heritage Court parking lot.

She told police she did not permit anyone to use the vehicle.

Security footage reportedly showed a known male suspect getting into the vehicle and driving away from the Heritage Court parking lot.

The vehicle was reportedly involved in a crash.

The owner provided a statement to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the investigation into the reported unauthorized use of the vehicle remains ongoing.
