A 37-year-old Springfield woman was arrested twice within a matter of hours late Thursday night into early Friday after separate traffic stops in Urbana and Bellefontaine, both involving allegations of impaired driving.
The first arrest happened around 11:52 p.m. on South Main Street in Urbana, when an officer stopped a vehicle after learning the registered owner, identified as Cierra Daube, had a canceled driver’s license.
When officers spoke to Daube, they noticed several signs of impairment.
Additionally, an open can of Four Loko, an extremely high-alcohol energy drink, was found within reach of Daube.
Daube initially refused to provide identification and did not comply with commands to exit the vehicle, prompting officers to remove her with assistance.
She then failed field sobriety tests.
Daube was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle impaired.
During a search of Daube’s vehicle, officers discovered a tied plastic bag inside the open Four Loko can.
The substance inside later tested positive for cocaine.
Authorities noted Daube has prior OVI convictions and was the only occupant of the vehicle despite holding only a temporary permit.
After being released to a sober driver, Daube was reportedly stopped again in Bellefontaine just hours later and arrested for another OVI.
During the second incident, officers observed the same silver Lexus SUV following a white Toyota SUV closely around 2:15 a.m.
Daube, again the driver, displayed several signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests.
She admitted to having been recently released from jail for a previous OVI.
The driver of the Toyota was also stopped and identified as 48-year-old Laura Douglas, of Bellefontaine.
Officers observed her behaving erratically, with rapid movements and lip-licking consistent with possible drug use.
A search revealed Douglas possessed two pipes consistent with smoking crack cocaine.
Additional suspected narcotics were found in the Lexus, including multiple small rocks believed to be crack cocaine, one of which tested positive on a field test.
Both Daube and Douglas were arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Evidence from the traffic stops, including suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia, has been sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for further testing.
Douglas is also facing charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation.
