A Dayton teen was arrested on a weapons charge Friday afternoon outside Lewistown around 3:30.

Washington Township Police stopped Avril Copeland, 19, for a license plate violation.

Upon making contact, officers observed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Copeland and her passenger, Anton Young, 25, of Dayton, were asked to exit the vehicle.

Young admitted to having a loaded handgun in the center console.

A probable cause search was conducted and authorities located marijuana, along with a loaded firearm, in Copeland’s purse that the officers were not advised of.

Due to Copeland’s age and failure to disclose the loaded firearm in her purse, she was placed under arrest.

She was transported to the Logan County Jail and charged with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.
